CCTV.com Becomes the Only Official Internet/ Mobile Phone Broadcaster of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games

First New Media Broadcast in the History of the Olympic Games Launched in China
CCTV held a press conference for Olympic new media resources at Media Center Beijing on January 21. Mr. Sun Yusheng, CCTV vice-president and Ms. Li Hong, chief representative of IOC’s Beijing Office, as well as nearly 400 delegates from enterprise clients, advertising agencies and press attended this conference.
“The fact that CCTV obtained new media broadcasting right of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games attests the importance that CCTV attaches to the development of Olympic communication and new media,” said CCTV vice-president Sun Yusheng in his speech at the press release. “The new media which is bound to play a significant role in the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games will attract the young generation of audience in particular to take part in the Olympic sports. CCTV will give full play to its advantages in multiple platforms such as TV station, network, mobile phone, bus mobile TV and IP TV so as to provide the best service for China’s 210 million netizens and over 500 million mobile phone users as well as users of other new media.”
CCTV International Network General Manager Wang Wenbin, who gave a detailed introduction of Olympic new media programs and advertising resources, noted that “CCTV’s new media platform CCTV.com is not only the official Internet/Mobile Phone Broadcaster of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games but also the only organization with the new media broadcasting right in mainland China and Macao for the Olympic Games. CCTV International will maximize the communication value of its advertisers’ major brands while presenting an Olympic new media gala of sights and sounds to its audience.”
Mr. Jiang Minghua, director of brand management research center in Guanghua School of Management, Peking University and several industry experts gave a full affirmation and approval of the media value of CCTV International based on their objective and scientific data analyses. They also conducted authoritative and accurate analyses and forecasts of the Olympic marketing and new media marketing that interest enterprises most in the year of 2008.
At the press conference, CCTV International launched two major advertising products which received widespread attention from enterprises and advertising agencies, thus officially starting the new media marketing for the Beijing Olympic Games.
