Once acting as the US Concession after the Chinese government opened the Tianjin port in 1860, Xiaobailou now does brisk trade in higher-end commodities and domestically famous brand names. The name "Xiaobailou" actually means "small white building" and referred to an edifice near Kaifeng Road that was once the only easily recognizable landmark in the area.
Meaning "Ancient Clothing Street", Gu Yi Jie is an 800-meter-long shopping strip that offers textiles, tailors, shoes, hats and accessories in over 130 shops. This perfect place to pick up souvenirs or do some shopping for yourself. You can find it at the Dongbeijiao and Beidaguan intersection.
